NC PARTNERSHIP FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Piedmont Triad Partnership (PTP) is the economic development and marketing organization representing the 12-county Piedmont Triad Region surrounding the cities of Greensboro, Winston-Salem and High Point. The twelve counties represented by the PTP are Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin.

This economically and geographically diverse region, with a population of approximately 1.5 million residents and an available workforce exceeding 800,000, has emerged as a primary location for a growing community of global companies operating in virtually every industry sector. Already recognized as a national center for manufacturing and logistics, the Piedmont Triad is also home to many office and headquarters facilities and medical/health care industries. The Piedmont Triad is also host of the semi-annual High Point Market, the largest home furnishings market in the world.

Resident companies include Dell, Citigroup, Volvo Trucks, American Express, Bridgestone, RFMD, DaimlerChrysler, Bank of America, Procter & Gamble, Novartis, BB&T, Energizer and Honda, among many other leading global brands. All were attracted by the Piedmont Triad’s location advantages, world-class infrastructure, favorable business climate and quality of life assets, including:

  • Central East Coast location midway between New York and Miami; Washington D.C. and Atlanta, and Research Triangle and Charlotte
  • Five interstate highways—I-85, I-40, I-77 and new I-73 and I-74
  • 11 four-year colleges/universities and nine community colleges
  • Piedmont Triad International Airport – site of the new FedEx Mid-Atlantic Hub opening in 2009
  • Easy access to North Carolina’s beautiful beaches and mountains
  • A wealth of leisure and recreational amenities enhanced by a rich and vibrant arts community

The PTP teams with the local economic development offices and the North Carolina Department of Commerce to market the Piedmont Triad domestically and internationally and to assist companies considering establishing operations in the region. That assistance includes responding to requests for information, coordinating logistics, and serving as a single regional point of contact.

The PTP received a $15 million, three-year U.S. Department of Labor-funded Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) grant in 2006. This grant supports a comprehensive, fully-integrated regional economic development and workforce development strategy for the Piedmont Triad.

In May 2007 Site Selection magazine named the Piedmont Triad Partnership one of the Top 10 North American Economic Development Organizations for the second consecutive year.
